Before we talk about real estate…
I want to share something with you. Google just notified me that this photo has now been viewed more than 80,000 times on Google Maps. That blows me away. Not because I think it’s an extraordinary photograph, but because it reminds me of something much more important. It captured a moment.
A Simple Habit
Back in 2020, I committed to taking a walk every day as part of a 66 Day Challenge from The ONE Thing. At the time, I had no idea where that simple habit would lead. I certainly wasn’t thinking six years ahead. I was just trying to be faithful to today’s walk.
Some mornings ended with a cup of coffee around the firepit at The Chastain. If you’ve ever been there on a cool fall or winter morning, you know there’s something special about that place. There is a chill in the air. The fire is mesmerizing. A few early risers are out and about. Some mornings I’d simply sit quietly and watch the neighborhood wake up. The above photo was one of those days.
Moments Along the Way
Almost without realizing it, I started taking pictures on my walks. Hundreds of them. Sunrises. Mist hovering over the park. Leaves changing color. Colors lighting up the sky. Ordinary moments that somehow didn’t feel ordinary.
Looking back now, it’s easier to see the thread connecting those daily walks to something much bigger. That habit eventually led me to walk the Camino de Santiago this year—a journey that would have seemed unimaginable when I put on my new walking shoes back in 2020.
Life has a funny way of working like that.
We spend so much time wondering where we’ll end up that we sometimes overlook what’s right in front of us.
I’ve found that when we savor today’s moments instead of rushing toward tomorrow’s destination, we often discover they were quietly preparing us for something we never expected.
I hope you find a little time to enjoy wherever you happen to be this weekend.
